Spreading the word: both from 1981-82; one outside Todd's of Limerick, the other outside Matt O'Flaherty's in Galway. The Limerick picture was taken when a few went down from Galway to spread the socialist mesage and sell the Militant down there. The first meeting of what would evolve into the Limerick branch of the Socialist Party was held that weekend. In the picture are Joe Higgins, Niall Kelly, Bill Harkins, Clem McCloskey, and one undentified. The Galway stall, which was regular on Saturdays, has S. Stewart, N. Kelly, M. Glynn's hair, unidentified mime artist, E. Farrell, and H. Cousins
This meeting was held in the Atlanta Hotel, Dominick St, Galway, around 1 March 1984. The main speaker was Peter Taaffe, editor of the English MILITANT newspaper. About 70 people attended, and some of them are in the other photo. The press release from the 'Galway Militant Supporters' - who operated, more or less, as a Trotskyist faction in the local Labour Party - was published verbatim in the CONNACHT SENTINEL
